Christmas Markets You Can Still Visit This December 2020

There is nothing better like a festive market bringing the Christmas spirit in people.

The first city recorded can be traced back to Vienna in December 1298 and the tradition has spread across the world over the centuries.


In Germany, Switzerland, and New York it’s difficult to find a destination that doesn’t hold an impressive advent market. Some have grown so popular that they have become tourist attractions.


Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, some festive markets will not be taking place this year. This is the list of Christmas markets that’s still on and will be making the Christmas spirit complete this year.


Viennese Dream Christmas Market, Austria

Although there are 20 Christmas markets in the Austrian capital, the Viennese Christmas dream is one of the oldest and most traditional held in front of the City Hall or at Rathausplatz. With reindeer rides, a giant Ferris wheel, and the classic nativity scene Vienna’s magical festive spirit.


Basel Christmas Market, Switzerland

In two different sections at Barfusserplatz and Munsterplatz, it’s made up of 200 fabulous decorated stalls selling Christmas spices, decorations, and candles. Families will enjoy the Christmas fairytale forest and activities such as gingerbread and candle decorating, star workshop, and a festive train.


I Mercatini Natale, Piazza Santa Croce, Florence

Nothing can top the beautiful backdrop by Santa Croce’s Franciscan Basilica, with the traditional fair transported from Heidelberg, Germany to Florence every year, it’s an Italian affair in many ways thanks to the beautiful scenery and Italian treats such as panforte.


Christmas in Tivoli, Copenhagen, Denmark

Over 500,000 fairy lights decorated the beautiful grounds, this Danish amusement park and pleasure garden is rumored to be the inspiration behind Disneyland. It is a dazzling place to visit any time of the year.


Tuomaan Markkinat, Helsinki

Nearly 150 vendors are selling traditional Christmas delicacies, glogi, Finland’s non-alcoholic mulled wine, and handicrafts in this wonderful Scandinavian Christmas market held in Helsinki near the Emperor Alexander II statue. Attendees can visit Santa Claus who has his wooden cabin and join activities like cookie decorating.


Winter Village at Bryant Park, New York

Every year Manhattan's Bryant Park is transformed into a majestic wonderland for the Bank of America Winter Village. The open-air market is a wonderful sight with 100 custom-designed kiosks and a 17,000 square foot outdoor rink that is free to use.
